Found in the Bubishi

In attacks on the nerve system in Kyusho, we can affect either the Somatic or Autonomic Systems. The Somatic system comprises 20% of brain capacity for conscious thought and action, whereas the Autonomic system is 80% of unconscious brain function or automatic body function (heart beat, digestion, etc.).

So when you are consciously moving be it a punch or kick or walking or any action you control mentally and or physically, this is your Somatic Nerve System function.

The Autonomic system (which breaks down further into subsystems such as Sympathetic and Para-Sympathetic), controls your involuntary or unconscious reflexes and body functions, that you have no control over.

Both of these systems where depicted in the Bubishi and are one of the keys to deciphering the totality of the manual. Now keep in mind a key simply unlocks a door or idea, it does not force you into a specific area or process, it allows you access to the processes, but you still need to take further action. This key correlates to Kyusho experience as well as reverse engineering of both causing physical dysfunction and restoring these body incapacitated functions. Healing and Hurting or the Yin (Black Tiger) and Yang (White Crane), with the interaction or reverse engineering (Dragon) aspects inherent in the culture from which it originated.

This key is depicted in the figures working both the forms or martial techniques, along with the two man interactions of these forms. In these figures you will note that the back of the figures are drawn in three ways, one being neutral one as a Somatic influence and the other as an Autonomic influence. These present themselves when Kyusho is applied to the opponent or training partner.
