I am honored t be working a new project with an old Martial Arts friend of many years and actually it's about time we did. Raffi Derderian of Johnson, R.I.(USA) has a long Martial Arts career and is a full time professional trainer . We train mostly the same arts from varying styles as we both train Kempo, Uechi Ryu & Knife... we only vary in his study of Filipino styles and my Chinese training. I am interested in Kali to see what additional tools it will allot my training.
Let me introduce to my readers (someone that needs no introduction in New England) Raffi Derderian
- Certified Instructor- JKD and Kali under Guro Dan Inosanto
- Senior Instructor (over 20 years under Sifu Kevin Seaman) - Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do & Filipino Martial Arts
- 7th Degree Black Belt - Shinko-Ryu Kempo (promoted to 7th degree by Master Michael Campos of Zen Do Kai Association)
- 6th Degree Black Belt - Uechi-ryu Karate under Master George Mattson
- 3rd Degree Black Belt - Filipino Martial Art Combatives under Hock Hochheim
- 2nd Degree Black Belt -Oki-Ryu Kenpo
- Ranked "Expert" in Knife Combatives by the Congress of American Knifefighters (Hock Hochheim)
- Recognized "Shihan of Martial Arts" by the International Uechi Karate Association
"When I saw the art of Kyusho being demonstrated, the first thing I thought of was how great it would blend with Kali Empty Hands. It would take this already devastating art of nerve strikes to a new level. As martial artists, we have an obligation to be in a constant and never ending search to deepen our knowledge. The art of Kyusho is one I feel should be studied in conjunction with the empty handed method of Filipino fighting, and also its vast array of weaponry."
Respectfully,
Raffi A. Derderian Jr.

By the way the topic is exploring and explaining the nerve attacks of Kali Arm Trapping… however this will work in all styles from Tai Chi to Shotokan to MMA.
What is interesting about going through these traps is how much Uechi-Ryu, Wing Chun, and Bubishi information and movement is in them… the Bubishi correlation is fascinating the hey out of me.
On the blog linked above I will keep adding comments as I keep training these traps from Raffi Derderian … about the correlations I am finding…man this is fun. For the Uechi folks… it is all in Sanchin with a move or two from Seisan.
There are also some that have the actions of American Kenpo… in the end all actions are in all Martial Arts… the only thing missing was the internal attacks and understanding the vulnerabilities of the human body.
We got that covered…
When an arm attack is parried, deflected or blocked, the reflexive system of the opponent quickly reverts to a secondary attack… the more experienced the individual the more reflexive their actions will be and the chance of success for you diminishes.
However if on first contact you negate that normal reflex, instill another that will not allow further arm action, buckled legs (or base), override rational thought and even have the capability to alter their conscious mind… victory is more assured.
Wow. Evan has showed me what he has mapped out for our event on March 7th. Both Kali and JKD students will truly benefit from this seminar.
As I always say “I promise you a great martial arts day.”
And so will Kyusho folks Raffi… most in Kyusho blindly believe that Tuite (joint Manipulations) are the state of the art… but try to lock a raging opponent… trapping gets you there so much faster and why I am so excited about working with these.
These are excellent training tools for Kyusho as they fit in and spin-off so many possible combinations… really looking forward to it.
Oh and for those that make or life easier by pre-registering we will have a 20% off the head targets followup…
Many Filipino systems teach Gunting or other destructive actions on the arm, this course will explain a deeper level that will forever change your Martial Arts.
I know that is a big claim, but I have seen it thousands of times around the world… as it is not just affecting the arms, it affect the entire physical structure inside and out.
And do not worry as in over 3 decades, I have never seen a Kyusho related injury.
Pre-registration closing today.
