Tactical Kyusho 2
As we looked the last time at working in a real environment in your approach to Kyusho, we need to go further to safeguard in more troubling situations, such as being attacked on a staircase or seated on a bench.
We do this as each situation we work in we will better be able to handle the stress more readily if that need arises.
It also challenges us as the training halls give us a false sense of capability as compared to training in real clothes, in real places you may have to travel in. Your best Kyusho delivery will not be possible if you slipped off a curb, backed into a fence or fire hydrant. What if you are facing your car as you unlocked it and someone jammed you in from behind... these scenarios are what you should be training, not techniques and especially not set techniques against set attacks.
You need to develop beyond the training hall, soft stable floors, loose comfortable clothing bare feet and a person that is going to stage an attack you expect and then they will stand there while you perform it. Are you in open area or a packed subway car... this is where the realities will tell you if you have wasted time or invested it.
Instead use the mobile target acquisition training in new and difficult or compromised positions. Have someone jam you face first into a chain link fence and develop your possibilities naturally, not someone else's staged tricks. Lets face it you may be faced with realities like this in your future... will you have spent too much time in a training hall or have you experience the realities of the environment in all conditions... this will be a difference in survival, not pretty moves.
In this months Vlog (7) we take a continuing look at attacks in real environments, this episode is focused on stairs and in open seated areas from several angles... with the focus not on technique but rather targeting strategically.
