Vlog-82-American-Kenpo-Salute

Kyusho-ized

Most Martial Arts have opening or greeting salutes from simple single bows, to more elaborate and symbolic transitions. However once the practitioner understands and can enact Kyusho, all actions, posture and or transitions can become powerful defensive or offensive applications.

The American Kenpo Opening Salute is very close with the longer methods of Chinese based Martial Arts styles. It is comprised of 7 main actions or postures that can be strung together in a full sequential transition against an opponent, or the actions may be employed individually to cause incapacitation in the opponent.

7 Postures

  1. The right fist and left covering palm pulls back toward the right side of the practitioners head.
  2. The same hand posture is then pressed outward to arms length directly in front of the practitioners head.
  3. The fist roll outward into back knuckle positions and withdrawn to either side of the practitioners body.
  4. Both hands open and rise in an arc back to head level with index finger and thumbs meeting to form a triangle.
  5. Hands pull back to chest level simultaneously with fisted right hand and covering palm as the left hand.
  6. Both hands roll forward into a double praying palm posture.
  7. Both hands simultaneously rise and arc out and down in a heart shaped transition.

At first glance this ornate and complex bow seems to be a fancy show or display of Martial Prowess, but upon Kyusho-ization, we see that it could become a grappled series of transitions, self defense technique or mapping of several Kyusho targets and inherent tools of attack.

Targets and Tools

  1. Proceeding in sequence the first target would be the Ulna Nerve that lay along the inner aspect of the outer forearm bone (Ulna Bone). Striking this sharply with a single knuckle, will cause intense electrical shock, pain, weakening and or paralysis and even dizziness or altered states of consciousness.
  2. The next sequence would have the palm slapping the Temporal Nerve as the fist sharply strikes the Mental or Facial Nerve/s.
  3. Roll the back of your knuckles on to the mental nerve and into the auricular nerves on the side of the head to weaken the neck and body of your opponent to turn them for your rear control.
  4. Using the ridges of the hands or tips of the thumbs, attack the lesser occipital nerves upward and outward in trajectory. Then catch the both sides of the neck in the pocket between the throat and sternocleidomastoid muscle, into the nerves and vascular tissue for shock, weakening, unconsciousness.
  5. Then brace, pull or slap with the palm to bring the opponent into the rising knuckles (see Kyusho's 4 concussives), into the facial nerve root behind the jaw.
  6. Drop double Iron Swords into the trapezoids on both sides simultaneously, on the scapular nerves or dorsal ramus nerves of the shoulders.
  7. Strike the transverse cervical nerve to weaken the neck and body, continuing the pressure forcing the head out and down, as you seize the transverse cervical nerve to maintain control with the same hand.Bring the other Iron Sword in to strike the Temporal nerve, facial nerve or transverse cervical nerve on the opposite side.

This is but one idea among infinite targets, tools and implementations that are possible. It is now up to the individual through their studies to expand n the simplified process to fully absorb the potential of this Opening Salute as well as the infinite possibilities of this grand style of Martial Arts.

Training

  1. Take your time in training, by working on the sequence given in the film until you can confidently perform the sequence quicker and more accurately.
  2. Then move up at this speed to being able to drop your partner or opponent on any and all targets during the faster sequence.
  3. Please also make sure you know how to revive them as the affects incapacitate them.
  4. Then have your opponent resist as they are going through the sequence.
  5. Once accomplished, you can move on to other targets, as you play and experiment gaining even greater skills.
  6. Then it is suggested to work it in varying environments such as an elevator (close quarters), staircases, on varying terrain and levels of outerwear.
  7. Finally working situationally against walls, in ground fighting and any other situation you conceive., using single or transitions in part togiveyou full command of the targets and actions.

Do not rush, enjoy the training, the workout and the powerful Kyusho-ization of the American Kenpo Opening Salute.
